Bringing my workouts and yoga practice in-home was a challenge at first, but I now love being able to exercise at home. I have more time for the other areas in life that are more important. Creating a template to fill in the blanks made it easier to get the most from my strength and cardio workouts. You can do the same thing with your yoga practice. Use the method below to plan your sequences. You can substitute different poses to change up your flow and create classes like a certified yogi boss!
The Sequencing Method
There are many ways to create your yoga class. Obtaining my 200-hour certification twice, many hours of teaching, and my own practice has allowed me to perfect a systematic procedure to craft sequences quickly and effectively.
The Poses
I don't know the exact number, but there are probably thousands of different postures to choose from. You can always google what you're looking for, but below is a pose bank that can help you get the creative juices flowing.
The Practice
Once you create your sequence, you're ready to practice. The are several approaches you can take when implementing a consistent practice.
Practice the same sequence for a week or even a month allows you to see any improvements and witness what thoughts come up with a familiar series.
Try holding the poses for five or more breaths. Do you want to come out of the pose prematurely? What kind of internal dialogue comes up?
Creating a sequence on your own gives you freedom and creativity over your yoga practice. Templates can be helpful and serve as a guide. However, once you get a feel for the sequencing, you can ditch a pre-planned lesson and free-flow from your center. Happy sequencing!
