Our creativity and fresh new ideas can dwindle, especially in our current situation. The more you want to get your creativity back the further it can slip. How long can you stare at a blank computer screen or notebook or go in the same circles, without accomplishing anything?
Research shows that mindfulness practices can help reduce brain fog and stagnation leading to more flexibility and creativity in thinking. Try these mindful ways to push through your next creative block.
Make the Time to Meditate
Quiet the mind and create space for new ideas to flourish. Focus on your breath or find a mantra that supports your creative flow. Insight Timer is what I use for guided meditations and just to track my progress.
Talk it Out with Others
We might not be able to see other possibilities. Talk to someone you trust. It might be helpful to speak to someone outside of your project to spark new creativity.
Change Your Norm
Are you used to working in the morning? Maybe you burn the midnight oil? Try changing it up...Maybe work from the kitchen instead of your office. Work in the afternoon instead of 1st thing in the morning. Get your brain out of the same ol’ rut.
Walk Away
The advice from our mothers; just walk away. When you’ve been working on the same thing or are trying to find your aha moment, but want to bang your head on the screen, take a break. Go do something different. Sometimes a walk outside and a deep breath are all that is needed to find your groove again.
Open Your Mind
Try looking at something out of your wheelhouse. Love Yoga, maybe check-out some HIIT classes. Love reading about fashion, maybe read about the latest in science. Creativity can hit when you, look-up, let go and look around.
