Life is changing as we know it. Restaurants are closed. Toilet paper is being hoarded. And some people are moving their work environment home. Working from home can be challenging, but very rewarding. Getting to sleep in longer. Making your lunch at home with your family. Finally, getting time to meditate in the morning. We can make the best of this new working environment but, need to set a few ground rules to ensure success at home.
Get up and get ready for work. Setting a new routine for your morning will help you find normalcy. Get up and get ready as you normally would…at least you can sleep in. Going through the morning ritual of getting ready for work will help you switch quicker into work mode when working from home. If you feel professional it will come through in your work.
Take advantage. You don’t have work in the same ole traditional way. Sit and work some from the couch. Nice day? Work outside. Want to start a meditation practice? Use this as an opportunity to incorporate a new habit or routine.
Take a break. It might be hard taking breaks working at home. I used to feel guilty when I would take my breaks at home. Now, I make sure to get out, take the dogs for a walk. Watch an episode, take a nap, do yoga at home in privacy, throw a load of laundry in…there’s way more to do at home for breaks.
Be productive. To be productive, plan out your day, including breaks. Let your family know your schedule, maybe write out a copy for them so everyone can be aware of your day. Stay away from the TV during work. Instead, listen to music to drown out background noise and keep motivated throughout your day. (Spotify: Workday Pop & Workday Flow)
Be flexible. This is a new situation for everyone. Children might be affected more than they realize. This time gives us the ability to slow down to actually be present with one another. As we all acclimate, we will need to be patient and flexible with each other, including ourselves.
